Two years ago, my best friend Lila said: 'Let's set up a time to talk on the PHONE'.

She was living in the busy borough of Manhattan and I was taking moonlit walks around cricket-singing Amherst, MA.

'Yes. Let's actually TALK.' I typed over text.

The phone rang and I hopped out the door for a walk around the block in the summertime heat. That's when she told me she went out on a date with a guy that she had been thinking about ever since.

"His books. They're the best. His decor... it's not boyish- it's like he's got his own style and knows himself. It was honestly the best date I've ever been on."

A few weeks later and she & I met at a breakfast place in our hometown for pancakes.

"I'm his GIRLFRIEND"-- and to that we clinked mason jars filled with iced coffee and I said: "This glass will take 1 million years to decompose... just don't throw out glass together!!" [thanks, eco training at umass]

2 years later and an overturn of life experiences, and here we are celebrating their engagement overlooking the NYC skyline.

It's not my story to tell about Lila's personal life & what her relationship and deep love with Yiorgos means. But let me say:

Lila was my first friend, in preschool. She was also the first person I ran up to in 6th grade spilling: "Jason just asked me out. I have a boyfriend" [it lasted 2 weeks because he got a buzzcut and I couldn't deal with big change at that age].

Lila was the first person I always wanted to tell any news to-- and not just about crushes, or romances, but rather a creative idea, or something humorous, or star-crossed-destiny-type stories. Her name itself 'Lila', is laced with flowers in my mind. It's love through my whole system. A memory of friendship, both past, present, and future- a forever thread of connection (we were born 11 days apart, after all).

To me, Lila is elegance incarnate. Kind-hearted, live-for-fun, take-care-of-each-other type of elegance and love. It's how her mom, Lucie, was. It's how Lila loves Yiorgos and the life they weave together.

May you be celebrating forever xx
